Artists I Enjoy Listening To

To name a few among other artists I enjoy listening to, I love Mercyme and Anne Wilson. They both have impactful songs that I can relate to in my own life, expressing a sense of never giving up and moving forward despite life's challenges. Listening to their music gives me a sense of strength and encourgaement, and certain songs match how I am truly feeling in the moment.

Anne Wilson is a Christian singer who writes and performs faith-based country music. When she was 15 years old, her life changed dramatically after learning one night that her brother, Jacob, had died suddenly in a car accident. While singing at her brother's funeral, those in attendance were deeply moved and surprised by the beauty of her voice. A family friend recorded her performance, and the video eventually circulated widely, reaching someone in Nashville within the Christian music industry. After conversations about record labels and production opportunities, Anne devoted the following years to songwriting, composing around 150 songs. At just 19 years old, she released her debut album, My Jesus in 2021. Her music centers on themes of faith, healing, and hope.

MercyMe is a contemporary Christian band that began by traveling to churches and camps to perform worship songs between 1994 and 2001. During those years, they produced around six independent albums. Their breakthrough song, "I Can Only Imagine," comes from a deeply personal story shared by lead singer Bart Millard. As a child, Bart faced significant challenges, including his mother abandoning him and his father at a young age, as well as enduring abuse from his father. Throughout those difficult years, he struggled with grief, anger, and feelings of abandonment. Around 1990, Bart's father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. During this time, his father's heart began to soften, and he gave his life to Jesus and started to attend church for refuge and strength. Bart experienced mixed emotions—feeling surprised by his father's change but still holding onto anger—until they began spending quality time together, which ultimately restored their relationship. After his father passed away, Bart wrote the inspiring song "I Can Only Imagine." This song became a turning point for both him and his bandmates, eventually leading to a record deal. The main focus of MercyMe's music includes heartfelt personal testimonies, forgiveness, strength, and healing.
